Fulfilling a Long-Time Dream: The Memoshot Story
Every business begins somewhere, and ours began with a decision, not a photobooth. Back in 2016, we dreamt of having a business, we made a plan. We did not have the equipment, the clients, or even a fully formed idea of what the business would look like day to day. What we had was a conviction that this was worth building.
It Started With a Plan
That conviction became real when we sold a property in 2024 and made a deliberate choice: set aside part of the proceeds to invest in ourselves. Not into stocks, not into another asset to sit and wait, but into equipment, into a skill, into a business we would build with our own hands. That decision alone says something about who we are. We do not wait for the "perfect moment." We create it.
Starting Small, On Purpose
When the first equipment finally arrived in August 2024, we did not launch with a big marketing campaign or a premium price tag. We started with our friends and our community, often at a very low price, sometimes for free.
That was not a lack of confidence. It was strategy disguised as generosity. Every free or discounted booking was really a paid education: we learned how the software worked, how the equipment behaved under real event conditions, and how the technology came together to create a genuinely magical moment for guests. Mistakes were cheap when the people on the other side of the camera were people who already believed in us.
This is one of our core qualities as a team: we are not afraid to start small and learn in public. We understand that mastery is earned through repetition, not assumed from day one.
Learning the Business We Did Not Know We Were Starting
Buying a photobooth is easy. Running a photobooth business is not, and that gap is where the real growth happened.
We did not just learn how to operate a machine. We had to become sales people, marketers, managers, and administrators, often all in the same day. We learned how to price a package, how to write a quote that wins trust, how to follow up without being pushy, and how to keep a calendar of bookings running smoothly behind the scenes.
We built relationships, not just with clients, but with partners who helped us grow and even competitors who, it turned out, had just as much to teach us as to compete with us. That openness, that willingness to see competitors as part of the same ecosystem rather than only rivals, reflects the kind of maturity that keeps a business sustainable over the long run.
None of these skills came pre-installed. We built every one of them from scratch, through direct experience, the same way we built the business itself.
Selling Memories, Not Machines
Somewhere along the way, we understood the most important lesson of all: clients do not hire a photobooth. They hire a feeling.
They want their wedding, their birthday, their corporate event to be remembered not just in photos, but in the laughter and spontaneity that happens in front of the camera. Once we understood that, everything shifted. Our conversations with clients stopped being about specs and features and started being about moments: the mother-of-the-bride candid shot, the coworkers who never usually talk cutting loose at the company party, the grandparent and grandchild sharing a silly prop together.
That reframe, from "we rent a photobooth" to "we deliver memories," is what turns a transactional business into a trusted one. It is why clients come back, and more importantly, why they refer us to others.
Where We Are Headed
Memoshot today stands on a foundation that was not rushed. Every stage, the low-cost community bookings, the hands-on technical learning, the slow build of business skills, the client-first philosophy, has compounded into something sturdier than a fast launch could have produced.
Looking ahead, the growth path is clear:
- Deepening client relationships through consistent, memorable experiences that turn one-time bookings into repeat business and referrals.
- Expanding partnerships with vendors, venues, and event planners built on the same trust we have cultivated since day one.
- Scaling operations using the very systems - booking management, quoting, invoicing, marketing, and reporting - that we built our administrative skills around, so growth does not come at the cost of quality.
- Investing further in technology and equipment, applying everything learned in those early low-price bookings to deliver an even more polished, more reliable, more delightful guest experience.
What began as a single decision to reinvest in ourselves has grown into a business defined by resilience, curiosity, and genuine care for the people we serve. And because that foundation was built deliberately, one lesson, one client, one relationship at a time, the road ahead is not just promising. It is earned.
Memoshot did not start with a photobooth. It started with a plan, a willingness to learn, and people who believed in us early. That is exactly why it is built to last.
